Accommodation
Flats are on the ground, first and second floors. Some are in the original 17th century buildings, some in the Georgian and Victorian wings, whilst the remainder are in flats created in the 1960s in adjacent cottages. Because of the Grade 1 listing of the main buildings there is limited provision for stair-lifts.
Most flats, whether single or double, have a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom and lavatory, together with a kitchen facility. All are modernised, and if necessary are refurbished to a high standard before occupancy. A cooker and refrigerator are provided. All residents have access to freezer facilities in a dedicated part of the Hospital, and timetabled access to the laundry room which provides washing machines and dryers. Residents are encouraged to use the community refuse and re-cycling facilities. Fresh produce from the organic garden is delivered to a central point where residents are invited to help themselves.
Accommodation is provided through a subsidised monthly maintenance contribution and includes council tax, heat and lighting. The Visitors (our Trustees) review the contribution every September and contributions tend to rise each year in line with inflation. Flats all have personal telephone and broadband access, the rental of which is the resident's responsibility. There is no satellite dish access, but Freeview is available. Wi-fi is available through private arrangement.
All residents have keys to their flats and to the main and back gates of the Hospital, so may come and go as they please. Dedicated parking space is available for most flats.
"Peace and quiet ~ being able to come and go as we please without question ~ and my wonderful view of the Dovecote is probably the best view in Bruton”
Accommodation Vacancies. Sadly, we currently have no flats available. This situation can however change rather quickly and an update can be provided by contacting the Duty Warden on 07951 487490.
